The nights are drawing in... a couple of recent lighting jobs... a supply to lights and sockets in a new garden workshop in Disley, and a couple of recessed LED spot lights controlled via a PIR sensor above an entrance door in Hadfield...
A recent garden installation included what is probably my MOST beautiful external junction box to date...
Work has slowed right down for a few weeks as a result of the Covid 19 situation, as I have tried to avoid spending too much time in occupied houses... so a recent rewire in an empty property in Glossop came round at a convenient time. This one included some Cat 6 data cabling. And when the time came to take a few days off work, I got stuck into the gardening... building a new fence and a flower-bed with a stone wall and incorporating a little stone seat! Now the shed light has been installed, and it's door has been repaired and improved (with the addition of a heart)... we are ready for the post-lockdown garden party!
The beauty of the re-wire... 2
The beauty of the re-wire!
Today's job, arising from a recent Periodic Safety Inspection, included the installation and test of a new split-load consumer unit, providing RCD protection for all final circuits in the house. I generally chose to fit Wylex boards, since they are nicely designed, and good quality.
Wall-lights and grommets... a great name for a startup electrical company!
Christmas Greetings from a newly illuminated No.10...
One of this weeks projects... a lighting circuit supplying two small LED spot lights to illuminate the arch above the front door, and a decorative pendant in the porch. The LED spots are activated by a stand-alone PIR sensor above the door, which sends a supply to two LED drivers located in an enclosure in the porch.

One of my jobs this week... a supply to a garden shed. External and internal socket outlets, and LED lighting inside and out.
A recent upgrade to give individual protection to each household circuit by RCBO...
A recent project... installation of a supply for a potters kiln. The new circuit is protected at the consumer unit by a 32 amp Type B RCBO.
A recently installed set of kitchen lights... with a difference... can anyone name the constellation?
For a moment there, I let my mind wander from the topic of Brexit! As the anger began to wane, I began to think about other scary things... I could start a series of posts entitled 'Scary electrics'... and for a minute I began to relax... but then that Brexit rage started to stir again...
One of this weeks tasks... remove two older fuse-boxes, and fit one new consumer unit with RCBO protection for each circuit individually... 'makes things safer and minimises the risk of nuisance tripping.
Before and after... a re-wireable fusebox, and redundant ‘Electra-tech’ wiring, removed and replaced with an 18th edition Wylex consumer unit fitted with RCBOs.
Customer satisfaction... that light has not worked for the last twelve months!!!
A recent consumer unit installation... 14 circuits in an 8-way rewireable fuse box... before and after...
Out with the old... in with the new... The first job of the new year... lighting in the hallway and dining room of a house in Shirebrook, Glossop. The cables for the new lights were installed in December. Thanks to Adam Demidh (ADP Commercial and Domestic Plastering), for his work removing sections of the plasterboard ceiling, and then re-boarding and skimming once the cables had been installed... another great job Adam! The new recessed fittings and island pendants give the house a fresh feel for the new year!
‘Spent all day moving two light switches! ‘Now having a lesson from my niece on the intricacies of the phenomenon which is ‘Instagram’! #socialmedia #slowswitching #socialswitching.
Change to red!
A recent project of mine... refurbishing a living room incorporating 12 Anglepoise pendants fitted with LIFX WiFi enabled LED lamps. By keeping the walls plane and light, changing the colour of the lamps changes the colour of the room!!
One of this weeks' jobs: remove a single pendant, and replace it with a row of three hanging lights centred directly above the table... transforming the dining area into a warm and glowing part of the house... just imagine the Christmas dinner!
A recent lighting project in Glossop... 22 x fire-rated GU10 LED fittings in a living room... arranged to switch with four independent dimmer switches, each operating one of four, 'random' clusters of lights... the result...a stunning living room!
Thursday's work in Broadbottom...a 19-way metal-clad Wylex consumer unit fitted with 17 RCBOs!
Meet the new Transporter...out with the blue, in with the white!!
After a house re-wire in Hadfield... what better than a long weekend away on the Llyn peninsula? Highly recommended!
This week, after the rewire in Broadbottom, and the Stables in Hollingworth, I have mostly been... catching up with light fittings, consumer units, sockets and paperwork!
This week I have mostly been... REWIRING!
This weeks work has included fault-finding in Charlesworth, circuit tests in Hollingworth, moving sockets in Reddish, sorting out lighting faults in Openshaw, fitting new lights in Tintwistle, and others in Knutsford and Middlewich!
