For all of you going through some particularly trying times we're here to help. While the virus rate is active we (and the court) have taken steps to protect everyone's health and well-being. We are taking new cases in and can do everything we need to to assess, file and complete a bankruptcy case without any in person meetings or hearings. Telephone and email are a couple of tools we've used for years. Now add video apps like Facetime and Zoom to our toolbox. In additi...on, the court has suspended the need for "wet" signatures on documents so that can all be done over the internet. The hearings on your case are, at least for the time being conducted via video conferencing. The court and the various trustee's office are still working the kinks out on just exactly what the logistics of that will be. Currently all creditor's meetings/hearings have been continued until at least April 10, 2020 in order to allow the time necessary to ramp that up. For our current Chapter 13 clients who may be having difficulties there are the standard options we've always had which would include modifying the chapter 13 plan or converting your case to a Chapter 7 if circumstances warrant. Also....the Chapter 13 trustee's office has implemented a policy where they are suspending filing motions to dismiss cases for non payment (but you should make them if you can of course). That won't last forever but gives some relief for the time being. In addition, there is some talk that the new legislation on corona virus relief may have a provision to extend the length of Chapter 13 plan beyond the limit of 60 months. In some circumstances that could prove to be very helpful. More on that later once the new law is implemented. In the meantime.
