The Prince William County Board of Supervisors met early last week to discuss the Commonwealth Transportation Board’s plan to turn a Haymarket farm on Antioch Road into a park and ride lot to support expansion and possible tolls on I-66. Jim Downey spoke on behalf of the farm owners requesting that their property be taken out of consideration. VDOT has agreed to look into alternatives partly as a result of Jim Downey’s presentation and representation of his client. http://www.northernvatimes.com//a/i-66-plan-hits-roadblock

The Warrenton Town Council vote on the proposed American Legion assisted living facility has been delayed until October 13. James Downey, of Downey & Mayhugh, PC, is representing the American Legion and has been working with the town and residents on the project. Originally proposed as a 120-room assisted living facility for veterans off of the East Shirley Avenue American Legion Hall, it is now proposed for only 90 rooms. The Warrenton town council will vote at the next meeting October 13. http://www.fauquiernow.com//fauquier-american-legion-assis

Did you know? Fauquier County is the birthplace of John Marshall, great Chief Justice, who practiced law in Warrenton and Richmond. The town of Marshall was named in his honor.

According to the US Department of Labor, Labor Day is a day dedicated to the economic and social achievements of American workers. This annual national tradition is a tribute to the contributions workers have made to the strength, prosperity, and well-being of the United States of America. Happy Labor Day to all!
