A wave of COVID bankruptcies looms, and in Orlando, filings have already begun: ‘I tried everything possible’ Nationwide, believe me, we are expecting to have... an influx of cases filed, but when it will start to happen, I don’t know, said Sheryl Loesch, clerk of Florida’s Middle District Bankruptcy Court, one of the country’s largest bankruptcy courts that spans 35 counties from Tampa Bay to Jacksonville. Since January, Loesch said, there have been 12,818 bankruptcies filed in the Middle District, far fewer than when the housing crisis hit a decade ago. In 2010, the peak of bankruptcy filings for the Middle District after the Great Recession, Loesch said there were 66,618 bankruptcy cases. https://www.orlandosentinel.com//os-bz-coronavirus-busines

In an effort to help curb the onslaught of possible evictions due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Orange County Board of County Commissioners unanimously approved the Orange County COVID-19 Eviction Diversion Program at the August 11, 2020 board meeting. The $20 million program will launch on August 25, 2020, and is funded by the Federal CARES Act monies that are allotted locally. The income-based program is designed to help Orange County’s most vulnerable tenants who are in imminent danger of eviction due to COVID-19 and provides the property owner with an alternative to eviction. The Orange County COVID-19 Eviction Diversion Program will provide up to $4,000 in past due rent. The Orange County Bar Association will administer the program and process all applications.
