It took multiple bond hearings and a stack of documents this thick, but we finally got our client out of the Adelanto Detention Facility. Our client had a heightened health risk due to respiratory issues, yet an Immigration Judge and ICE refused to release her from custody. The Adelanto Facility has had the largest outbreak of immigrant detention facilities. Nearly 20 percent of the detainees have tested positive. This is absolutely ridiculous. There’s been reports of lack ...of adequate social distancing, lack of proper cleaning supplies, and failure to implement sufficient safety measures. I’m happy we were able to get our client out, but it’s so upsetting knowing how many people will remain at risk. Change is essential!!

We all make mistakes. Sometimes our past mistakes can dramatically affect our future. In the case of a conviction, it can affect one’s ability to get housing, employment, or financial aid. That said, the past does not have to define one’s future. Getting a conviction expunged is a great way to put the past behind and move forward. I’m happy to know we’ve helped yet another deserving person take a positive step in the right direction.
